holiday in lille

Spending the holidays with E's family means flying across the Atlantic Ocean and then taking a train to the north of France. We spent most of the trip in Lille and a few days in Paris. We returned home with beaucoup de souvenirs.

Although it's Winter, the weather was (mostly) kind enough to allow for walks. The wind was restless and blowing things away. I'm glad we ventured out, as we found a 1962 edition of Le Deuxième Sexe, a book we had been wanting for months.

One of the things E and I love to do, while on vacation, is stop at as many cafés as time permits. We try small plates, wine, and people watch. On this day, we saw the most rad-red-headed woman waiting for the bus. Sadly, I didn't have my camera ready.

One thing we really wanted to do was put our love lock on Pont des Arts. We walked in silence and stopped right at "our spot" at the same time. As we were placing the lock, it began to rain. (I hear this is good luck.) E threw the keys into the Seine after the lock was secure. It was totally awesome to see the keys tumble into the River.

And, until next Summer, E and I are dreaming of hanging along the Seine...
