top five books // 03

With the semester in full swing, I have been BUSY. Fall is my favorite time of the year. When not grading papers, or reviewing poetry portfolios, I love to snuggle under the covers and catch-up on all things print.  The current five books I'm reading and plan to read:

Rimbaud's Poésies, Une Saison en Enfer, Illuminations is the collection that I'm currently working on. With lines like “J’ai embrassé l’aube d’été” (178) I welcome fall sunsets. This book is refreshing and it's heady.

I usually return to Carrie St. George Comer's The Unrequited in the fall. It's something to do with the lovely mystery against the backdrop of peopled streets in Chicago—each poem merges masculine and feminine.

American Fanatics is a book that E and I picked up this summer.  Dorothy Barresi was my professor ages ago. Her poems have added to our discussions about America, Americana, and Americans.

Voyage au bout de la Nuit by Céline is a text I have not yet started. But, with informal language looming, I look forward to walking into the dark to get to know the protagonist.

The Basque History of the World by Mark Kurlansky is a suggested text and I have yet to begin. I'm unfamiliar with this culture and  look forward to reading about the political climate.
